Meran & surroundings

Not surprisingly, Meran and its surroundings are a favourite holiday area, since it is also the Mediterranean corner of South Tyrol.

Living history, traditions and modern lifestyles are all to be found here, together with a particularly benign climate.  Fortresses and castles bear witness to the history of Tyrol, lively streets in the villages and Meran are an invitation to stylish shopping. Wine cellars, traditional inns and superior restaurants offer everything a demanding gourmet could desire.

For culture lovers there are many concerts and events, including some held in the Art Nouveau Meran Spa buildings or in the Botanical Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. Beautiful landscape and amazing contrasts (from palms and Mediterranean plants to snow-covered mountains) can be experienced here within a small area - while hiking on the irrigation channels called Waalwege and strolling along the promenades on the hillsides.

The area around the spa town of Meran, known as the “Meraner Land”, is a paradise for the walkers and for those looking for relaxation. Here also, you can experience the delightful contrast between Alpine and Mediterranean landscapes, which makes the region so unique; unspoilt high mountain regions, steep alpine pastures, with comfortable mountain huts, villages with rich traditions, Mediterranean flora, and a sunny valley landscape with orchards and vineyards.
